Pesticide Applicator Course

Location: BCIT Campus

Dates: March 11-13, 2019 from 8:30AM – 4:30PM

This 3-day course will prepare you to successfully obtain your provincial pesticide applicator certification (Industrial Vegetation and Noxious Weed Applicator Category) and includes an exam sitting on the final day.

PARTICIPANTS WILL LEARN:

  • Local, provincial and federal legislation that govern pesticide use in BC
  • Identification and management of priority invasive plant species in Metro Vancouver
  • How pesticides are registered, classified and labeled for use in Canada
  • Principles of Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
  • How to minimize environmental and human health risks when selecting and applying pesticides
  • Application technology and how to calculate pesticide application rates
  • Emergency response

 

Instructor: Art Guite has an extensive background in pest management in BC. He has a B.Sc. (Forest Biology, UBC); Diploma of Technology, Public Health Inspection and Pollution Control (BCIT); and a Masters of Pest Management (SFU). He owns Art Guite Consulting (div. Ridpest Service Ltd.) and has experience in mosquito control, structural and ornamental pest management and industrial vegetation control. Art has been teaching Pesticide Applicator and Dispenser Courses in structural, landscape, industrial vegetation and agriculture categories since 1988.

Exam: The exam is offered on the final afternoon of the course. Govt issued photo ID is required (such as driver’s license, BC ID card, or passport). Results will be mailed to candidates within about 2 weeks. A 1-year certificate is awarded for 60-74% on the exam and a 5-year certificate is awarded for 75% and above. Certificate is only valid in BC; please check other jurisdictions for equivalent credential.

Registration: Registration is limited and accepted on a first come, first served basis. Cost is $495/person (fee includes instruction, course books, exam and applicable taxes). Full payment by invoice, cheque or e-transfer due upon registration to hold spot. Cancellations with full refund accepted until Mar 1. The ISCMV reserves the right to cancel the course (with full refund) by Mar 5.
