Education & Training
Public Workshops
The ISCMV offers tailored invasive species presentations and workshops for public groups such as garden clubs, service organizations, youth groups, or any group who wants to learn about invasive species! Presentations can cover the basics of invasive plants and animals, their impacts, and how you can be part of the solution. Presentations are tailored to meet the knowledge level and interests of the group. Funding is available to provide presentations and workshops for free for groups that qualify.
Technical Training
The ISCMV offers workshops to agencies and staff teams that deal with or may encounter invasive species throughout Metro Vancouver –government agencies, contractors, parks & roadside maintenance staff, environmental professionals & outdoor workers. Small changes to daily activities and maintenance practices can significantly reduce the spread and impacts of invasive species and result in significant cost savings on future management. Workshops are tailored to meet the unique concerns of the host group and can happen at your worksite. For additional information on our invasive species training, please check out our flyer.
Volunteers are vital to invasive species management in Metro Vancouver, but have more limited opportunities for professional development and support than paid staff who work in the industry. The ISCMV is now offering its technical training workshop to stewardship groups throughout Metro Vancouver. Ensure that your group is achieving the highest possible efficacy and that your projects continue to be meaningful and sustainable. Stay engaged in the larger invasive species management effort and learn about what’s happening around the region. For more information, please check out our stewardship training flyer.
Pesticide Applicator Courses
The ISCMV offers pesticide applicator courses open to the public, or for particular groups upon request. Courses are designed to prepare participants to successfully obtain their provincial pesticide applicator certification (Industrial Vegetation and Noxious Weed Applicator Category) and include an exam sitting on the final day. The minimum number of participants required to run a course is about 12.
