Native seed production and community outreach to encourage seed-based restoration on southern Vancouver Island

This talk highlighted small-scale native seed production and applications for native seed in urban settings and emphasize aspects of community education related to seed-based restoration. Reducing barriers to restoration is one of the primary objectives of Satinflower Nurseries. Over the last eleven years, the nursery has worked to encourage the use of native seeds on southern Vancouver Island by making them available and accessible and providing education about the role of seeds in restoration. The nursery produces approximately 200 genetically local native species on a small tract of land using organic growing methods.
