Confirmed speakers and topics include:
- Pamela Zevit, Biodiversity Conservation Planner and Miriam Marshall, Environment Manager (Acting) from the City of Surrey presenting on Managing for Species at Risk in Surrey’s Parks. Together they will provide an update on efforts to integrate species at risk management and conservation as part of broader implementation of Surrey’s Biodiversity Conservation Strategy.
- Sofi Hindmarch, Independent Wildlife Biologist, presenting on Biological Control: The Barn Owl, Our Rodent Control Ally. She will focus on the Barn Owl nest box program, its results to date and lessons learned.
- Dr. Mike Pearson, Principal at Pearson Ecological, presenting on Updates from the Field: Salish Sucker Declines and Some Unusual Dace. Salish Sucker abundance in Canada has declined an estimated 46 percent in the past decade. Reasons for this will be discussed. He will also discuss the discovery of rare, lake-dwelling populations of Longnose Dace in Chilliwack Lake and Chehalis Lake that may be morphologically distinct from river dwelling Longnose Dace in the same systems, forming species-pairs analagous to SARA-listed Threespine Stickleback species pairs.
Speakers will also be present to cover species at risk updates from Environment and Climate Change Canada and the Province of BC’s Ministry of Water, Land, and Resource Stewardship.
Details on additional speakers to be added soon!
