Join the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure and the Invasive Species Council of Metro Vancouver for a free webinar about Japanese beetle on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 from 12:00 - 12:30 PM.

The Japanese beetle is a significant pest in many parts of North America, including Metro Vancouver. Outside of its native habitat, the Japanese beetle is a destructive insect known for its voracious appetite and ability to quickly defoliate plants, resulting in reduced crop yields and landscape damage. It is a regulated and quarantine pest in Canada, and a variety of prevention and management strategies have been implemented in the Metro Vancouver region, including the establishment of several regulated areas. There are restrictions on the movement of plants with soil in these regulated areas, which overlap some of MOTI's rights-of-ways.

This webinar will help staff and contractors understand their responsibilities when activities occur in a Japanese beetle regulated area. Regulated areas are currently in place in Vancouver, Burnaby, and Port Coquitlam, so this webinar is most relevant to the Lower Mainland District.
